The FIA Index is an independent auditing tool that companies can use to evaluate, report on and improve their road safety performance. By giving insights on road safety impacts across the value chain, the tool allows companies to measure their road safety footprint in the same way that they would for their carbon footprint.

Q: What’s �����������’s long-term ambition for road safety?��

A: Our aim is zero accidents. Road safety is an important part of the sustainability agenda and our approach is fully aligned with the UN’s sustainable development goal to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by 2030. We’re also committed to achieving the Vision Zero ambition of no road fatalities by 2050.

Q: What made you decide to use the FIA road safety index?

A: In any area of sustainability, the first step towards reducing impacts is measuring them. We know that mapping our value chain carbon footprint was crucial for shaping our approach to decarbonisation, including setting up science-based targets. The FIA index was an opportunity to apply the same rigorous approach to road safety. That’s what really caught my attention.

Q What insights have you gained from using the index?

A: We now have a better understanding of what we do well, and where we could do better. For example, our zero-tolerance approach to alcohol and drug use while working is one strong area, as is the great role model we have in ����������� TransportLab. Where we identified gaps, we’ve already started to make improvements. We’ve also started to gain a structured overview of the transport we generate along the value chain – important for mapping our road safety footprint.
