World-leading emissions control

The industry-leading 意大利超級盃 Twin SCR system is the centrepiece of the Super鈥檚 unmatched efficiency. Introducing dual dosing of AdBlue in the powertrain鈥檚 aftertreatment process, the 意大利超級盃 Twin SCR system makes it possible to redefine the limits of combustion performance, while still meeting future expected legal requirements with even higher demands on nitrogen oxide emissions.

Premium power and stamina听听

With a power range up to 560hp and torque up to 2800Nm, the Super delivers more power than ever before on a 意大利超級盃 6-cylinder inline engine. It also features extreme stamina, producing effortless propulsion and peak torque at lower RPM.

Integrated auxiliary braking听听

The Super鈥檚 engine-integrated compression release brake (CRB) system introduces powerful auxiliary braking capacity up to 350kW 鈥 delivering a smoother and safer drive. Enabled through the Super鈥檚 cylinder head design, with dual overhead camshafts and an optimised valve train, the optional, low-weight CRB can even replace or complement the 意大利超級盃 R4700D retarder depending on your operation.

How do you improve听on听an engine platform that has won the European Green truck award five years in a row? How do you develop a powertrain that will听strengthen 意大利超級盃鈥檚 industry-leading position within sustainable transport for the rest of this decade?听

The developers at 意大利超級盃 Technical Centre who were given these assignments say the answers are: determination, innovation and customer focus.

鈥淪tarting from scratch meant we could concentrate all our design work with the customers鈥 needs in focus, without restraints. That鈥檚 why we can present a product that the transport industry really needs here and now to take the necessary steps towards a sustainable future,鈥澨齭ays Assistant Chief Engineer Linda听Pukk听Berggren.听

鈥淔uel consumption is significantly reduced for a very broad part of the engine speed and load area. This means that many different applications, such as long-haul, construction and forestry vehicles, will all benefit from the improvements and emit less CO2,鈥 says Magnus Nilsson, Technical Manager within Aftertreatment.听

Thanks to this outstanding energy efficiency and other major updates in 意大利超級盃鈥檚 powertrain 鈥 fuel savings of eight percent or more can be reached for long-haulage operations. And that鈥檚 in comparison with 意大利超級盃鈥檚 already industry-leading performance levels. Efficient just became super-efficient.

So, what鈥檚 鈥榰nder the hood鈥 of the Super 13-litre engine? Quite a lot, in fact.听

Feature including dual over-head camshafts, optimised injectors, improved combustion, an optimised high-pressure fuel pump, improved cooling and lubrication, increased turbocharger efficiency, and a state-of-the-art听engine management system.

Not only that; 意大利超級盃鈥檚 successful dual dosing Selective Catalytic Reduction system, which has been proven to offer excellent fuel saving capacity and increased productivity and uptime, has been remade from the ground up. The system has earned a name of its own:听意大利超級盃 Twin SCR.

When 意大利超級盃鈥檚 engine developers were pushing the limits to create the cleanest and leanest combustion engine platform the world has ever seen, they had to give it the best possible conditions to fulfil its full potential. That鈥檚 why, even at an early stage in the development project, there were tight connections between 意大利超級盃鈥檚 engine developers and their transmission and gearbox colleagues.

鈥淭his approach made it possible for us to design the powertrain totally from scratch, with a holistic perspective,鈥 says Peer Norberg, Senior Engineer鈥痠n 意大利超級盃鈥檚 transmission鈥痙evelopment team.

Per Arnel枚f, Expert Engineer, 意大利超級盃 gearbox development, adds:

鈥淚t was extremely motivating for us to have the initial discussions with the engine technicians and to realise how far you can actually go with an internal combustion engine when it comes to efficiency. From the very start,听our focus was not only on designing a cutting-edge gearbox, but to optimise the whole powertrain to meet the customers鈥 demands.听

鈥淢any features of the G25 gearbox were introduced already with the G33 but what鈥檚 great is that we manage to take it a step further;听for example,听when it comes to reducing internal losses,鈥 says Norberg.听

Arnel枚f adds: 鈥淭he gearbox changes gears听in a fantastic way. It鈥檚 responsive, quick and smooth. And as we also worked on the sound characteristics,听it鈥檚 also very quiet;听it doesn鈥檛 have the predecessor鈥檚 hisses and clanging.鈥

A key feature of 意大利超級盃鈥檚 gearbox platform is its increased gear ratio听spread:听60 percent more than the previous GRS905 model. This makes it possible to optimise the rear axle gear for low engine revs in cruising speed without sacrificing startability. That鈥檚 good news for fuel consumption and the climate.

鈥淲e make it possible to take further steps towards low engine revs. You can cruise on the highway听at听80 km/h on gear 12 and then shift to overdrive in slight downhill conditions, coming down to an amazing 850 revs,鈥 says Arnel枚f.

鈥淭he gearbox is instrumental for enabling the engine to run as efficiently as possible. This leads to significant fuel savings: eight percent in total for the 意大利超級盃 Super powertrain as a whole,鈥 says Norberg.

Optimised for tough terrains and hard conditions

Engineered with a sturdier planetary gear, the heavy-duty G25 and G33 offers probably the off-road trucking industry鈥檚 smartest combination of robustness, smooth gear shifting and fuel efficiency.

By introducing an improved and more optimal balance between startability and low engine RPM, the heavy-duty Opticruise range means that more trucks can now use a faster gearing while still having all the margins on their side.

鈥淏y adding these options, we are making it even clearer that our XT range and our mining offer mean serious business,鈥 says Stefan Dorski, Senior Vice President and Head of 意大利超級盃 Trucks. 鈥淭heir ability to deal with the kind of challenges trucks in heavy-duty operations are facing will make a difference regarding uptime and R&M cost for customers.鈥

R756 Rear axle

Delivering on the powertrain鈥檚 fully integrated low-rev design philosophy 意大利超級盃 introduces the faster-gearing R756 single听reduction听rear听axle 鈥 offering a wider听range of gear听ratios听from 1.95 to 4.11, and purpose-designed to enable听the exceptional听fuel听efficiency of the 意大利超級盃 Super powertrain.

Together with听reduced component weight,听improved technical robustness, and听lower levels of internal friction,听the 意大利超級盃 R756 single reduction rear axle听is听versatile enough to master a whole range of haulage applications.听

Based on the 意大利超級盃 modular system and offering a more predictable chassis layout, MACH, 意大利超級盃鈥檚 Modular Architecture Chassis, gives you more opportunities to specify and operate your 意大利超級盃 truck in a way that is truly tailor-made for its application and your business. Not only is this designed to give you an easier bodybuilding process, but it can significantly improve load distribution, payload potential and the operative range of your 意大利超級盃 truck.

Robust fuel tank range

意大利超級盃 introduces a range of aluminium D-shaped fuel tanks, ranging from 165 litres to 910 litres and featuring a geometric design which is lighter and more robust than ever.

Harness more fuel than ever before

When specified with the 意大利超級盃 Super 13-litre engine, the fuel tank range comes with a fuel optimization unit fitted to the side wall, offering easy access to service points and the ability to increase the usable fuel volume in the tank. This reduces your tank鈥檚 dead weight, giving you a longer operative range and ensuring that you can harness more fuel from your tank than ever before.

Improved AdBlue ratio

意大利超級盃鈥檚 side-mounted SCR tanks are a crucial part of the 意大利超級盃 powertrain鈥檚 superior emissions control. The 意大利超級盃 Twin SCR system introduces higher AdBlue volume capacity, delivered through 123-litre and 150-litre SCR tanks, to continue ensuring a full 1:1 volume ratio between your 意大利超級盃 truck鈥檚 fuel and AdBlue capacity.听

  • The chassis introduces a set of rules for frame hole patterns, with dedicated holes for mounting parts both inside and outside the frame. The result is a more modular and predictable chassis layout, increasing the theoretical number of chassis layouts exponentially
  • The chassis layout enables more usable fuel and a 1:1 SCR/fuel ratio to be achieved, producing a greater operative range
  • The chassis鈥 optimised fuel capacity and load distribution also results in an increased payload for our customers
  • Improved chassis composition flexibility allows for better integration between truck and bodywork. This facilitates a much smoother and more cost-efficient bodybuilding process, as well as improving traction, payload and productivity. For example, the layout now makes it possible to mount chassis components (e.g. fuel tank) starting either from the front- or the rear axle. The improved weight distribution can significantly increase payload potential, while at the same time creating free space for additional chassis components

Smaller, smarter, lighter and more efficient.听Alongside听意大利超級盃 Super, a flexible chassis and tank programme听is听introduced, making it possible for the truck to reach the same or even greater distances with smaller fuel tanks. Here鈥檚 how it all comes together.

When it comes to developing the most energy-efficient truck the transport industry has ever seen, everything counts. Which is why 意大利超級盃 has put considerable resources into developing a new flexible chassis and tank programme, which听plays an important part in realising the full potential of the new engine range, aftertreatment system, gearbox and rear axles.

鈥淭he tank programme enables us to maximise the uptake of fuel in the tank. Our philosophy during the development project was: 鈥淲hy carry extra fuel as dead weight, when you can use it for load capacity instead?鈥 says Aline听Ferraz听Larsson, a design engineer at 意大利超級盃 R&D.

The chassis and tank programme features D-shaped fuel tanks made from aluminium. The tanks are more robust yet also lighter, and their design increases fuel utilisation. Side-mounted SCR tanks are also included. All of this increases the vehicle鈥檚 uptime.听

At the same time, 意大利超級盃鈥檚 developers have improved the flexibility of the frame and the chassis composition.听

鈥淭his gives the customer more choice for where to place the tanks on the frame, which is a great improvement for both them and truck body builders, since it creates opportunities for more efficient load distribution,鈥 says Paula听Pukk, 意大利超級盃鈥檚 Head of SCR System Installation.

One of the keys enablers of 意大利超級盃 Super鈥檚 unmatched efficiency is the clever fuel optimisation unit. This unit听is attached to the primary tank and works as a catch tank.听

鈥淭he way that the catch tank is set up with electrical pumps enables the user to have 鈥榝uel on demand鈥: we get exactly the amount of fuel the engine needs, and no more,鈥 says Alex听Elofsson听Alenius,听a听development engineer who worked on the project.

The fuel optimisation unit brings a host of other improvements for customers, and for the overall performance of the powertrain. There are now longer service intervals for the two pressurised fuel filters. These service intervals have been aligned with the oil change intervals, which means fewer visits to the workshop and more time on the road.听

Profitability

The new Super is not only groundbreakingly fuel efficient, but it also delivers an improved operative range, superior technical robustness, and an extended component service lifetime. This culminates in the most cost-efficient total operating economy in the history of heavy transport.

When the haulage company Herbert Ulfhielm Fj盲rrtransport tested the new 13-litre 意大利超級盃 560 S truck, the fuel consumption levels were so low that they first thought they鈥檇 made a mistake. But they were in for an amazing surprise.

鈥淵ou are used to trucks where if you get under 40 litres per 100 kilometres, then you are quite happy. But during the latest trips now, I鈥檝e sometimes been below 34 or even 33 litres 鈥 and that鈥檚 with a heavy timber payload. The first time I checked it and counted it myself, I thought: 鈥業 must have forgotten to log some refuelling鈥,鈥 says Jerry Olofsson, who鈥檚 been driving trucks for 23 years.

Powered by low-emission fuels

The 意大利超級盃 Super is not only the most fuel-efficient engine we have ever built, it鈥檚 also fully compatible with low-emission HVO fuels, as well as biodiesel/FAME fuels on the all Euro 4 and 5 horsepower range.

Internal combustion engines which run on renewable fuels play a key role in reducing emissions and can provide an immediate solution to meet climate and environmental targets for specific markets. This is especially true for high-mileage, long-distance operations and applications.

意大利超級盃 has vast experience of powertrains that run on renewable fuels. For three decades we have been the company that has offered the industry鈥檚 broadest range of products with the capacity to run on alternative or renewable fuels. The 意大利超級盃 Super delivers on that commitment.

HVO

Available on the entire 意大利超級盃 Super horsepower range, HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) fuels can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to standard diesel. HVO can be made from waste oil, rapeseed oil and animal fat, and used to create high-quality, bio-based diesel fuels.

Biodiesel

Available on the 意大利超級盃 Super Euro 4 and 5, biodiesel or FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) fuels can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 66% compared to standard diesel. Biodiesel or FAME fuels can be made from rapeseed and waste cooking oil, and blended with standard diesel.
